  • Democracy - 08.08.2022

    Join the citizen's jury and select the very first European Capital of Democracy
    It's time: join the citizen's jury and select the very first European Capital of Democracy at the end of 2023! To become a juror, you won’t need more than 5 minutes to complete your registration.

    Starting in 2022, every year, a different city will be designated European Capital of Democracy, chosen by a jury of 10,000 European citizens. In cooperation with civil ociety, the title-holding city will host a wide range of activities and events, all designed to improve and strengthen democracy. 
  • G7 - 02.03.2022

    Urban alliance formed to support German G7 Presidency
    The Association of German Cities (DST, a CEMR member), ICLEI and the Global Parliament of Mayors have launched an urban alliance to accompany the German G7 Presidency. The alliance will support the G7 Presidency programme and provide urban perspectives throughout.

    The German G7 Presidency began at the beginning of 2022 and will culminate with the G7 summit on 26-28 June in Schloss Elmau (Bavaria). For more information on the urban alliance, please consult the press releases of ICLEI (in English) and DST (in German).

    Recruitment notice: Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
    The Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is looking for a new Secretary General. The role requires extensive senior-level management experience and an understanding of international organisations.

    The Congress strengthens local and regional democracy in 47 Member States in accordance with the European Charter of Local Self-Government and promotes human rights and the rule of law at local and regional levels.   • Call for contractor - 14.09.2021

    Mission: research and draft a study on local finances in Europe
    CEMR is looking for a contractor to research and draft a study on local finances in Europe since 2010, including the impact of COVID-19 and the development of green local finances. The work will take place between end of October 2021 and April 2022.

    Interested bidders should submit their bids by Sunday 17 October 2021 at the latest. For more information on the mission and how to apply, please consult the Terms of Reference and the publication's Concept Note.
  • Future of Europe Conference - 19.04.2021

    Help citizens make their voice heard
    The future is yours! That's the motto of the European Union's Conference on the Future of Europe. Citizens and civil society organisations are encouraged to participate through the Conference's dedicated website.

    The website allows users to share their ideas, find events close to them and organise their own events covering 10 different topics, from climate change and healthcare to migration and education, that are crucial to the future of our continent.

  • Webinar - 16.03.2021

    Activating citizens: how municipalities can make use of the European Solidarity Corps
    This online event with about 25 municipalities from all over Europe will highlight the various possibilities of the European Solidarity Corps. This seminar, open to local governments and their organisations, will show how the Corps can help municipalities meet their local needs, activate their citizens and strengthen their  networks, notably in the field of town twinning.

  • Emperor Maximilian Prize 2021 - 25.11.2020

    Win €10,000 for your local project with European ambitions
    Do you have a creative project in mind for your municipality or region? Do you live by the motto “act local, think European”? If so, you should compete for the Emperor Maximilian Prize, awarded by the City of Innsbruck and the State of Tyrol, rewarding excellent local or regional projects with a European dimension.

    Individuals, private associations and public institutions are eligible for the €10,000-prize. Previous winners have included Swedish politician Anders Knape for his lifelong advocacy for local and regional government and the Tyrolean association “Rückenwind”, which enables underprivileged young people to go abroad for an international project.
