Sustainable energy week - 15.02.2016
Organise an "Energy day" in your town or region
The European Commission invites you to become an Energy day’s organiser during the Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), to be held from 13 to 16 June 2016.
Workshops, competitions, online events, open door days, or any other event you decide to organise should put forward local projects promoting secure, clean and efficient energy.

Better regulation - 12.02.2016
EU Commission wants to hear your views
How would you make EU legislation more efficiency? How would you reduce formalities to participate in a public consultation? The Commission invites citizens, businesses, local authorities, NGOs, etc. to share their views on how to make EU laws more effective and efficient.
In order to collect the view of all interested stakeholders, the Commission launched an online platform. -
Covenant of Mayors Africa - 11.02.2016
Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa: first step
In order to implement the Covenant of Mayors in sub-Saharan Africa, CEMR is looking for pilot towns and cities to develop local energy policies, based on the the principles of the Covenant.
To this aim, CEMR is organising a set of workshops in four African countries: Kenya, South Africa, Senegal and Cabo Verde. A first stop will take place in Cape Town (South Africa) on Friday 12 February.

Covenant of Mayors - 10.02.2016
A workshop to introduce the new Covenant of Mayors in Scotland
CEMR Scottish association of local governance (COSLA) and the Covenant of Mayors will be introducing the new integrated Covenant of Mayors to local elected representatives next 12 February, in Edinburg.
The purpose of the event is twofold: to raise awareness among Councils who are not currently involved and to provide space for discussion to the Scottish signatories.

Circular economy - 09.02.2016
Consultation: the Committee of the Regions wants to hear the opinion of local government associations
The results of the consultation will contribute to the opinion paper that the Committee of the Regions (CoR) is currently drafting on the EU circular economy package.
The consultation will take place on Tuesday 23 February at the CoR building, in Brussels.
You have until Monday 22 February to register. -
Environmental noise - 04.02.2016
EU Commission has launched a consultation on the Environmental Noise Directive
The consultation aims to collect the views of citizens and associations of citizens, local and regional governments as well all other interested stakeholders, addressing specifically the relevance, effectiveness and EU added value of the Environmental Noise Directive.
The deadline to participate is 28 March 2016. -

The EU Covenant on Demographic Change reinforces its local dimension
The Covenant on Demographic Change will be led by European local elected representatives, including the Mayor of Udine (Italy), as President of the association, and the Deputy Mayor of Tampere (Finland) as one of the directors. The new working structure puts forward the role played by towns and regions when adapting our territories to an ageing society.

Circular economy - 01.02.2016
Separate waste collection: Towns and regions to contribute to implement the circular economy
Cities are key to promote prevention, sustainable consumption and increase awareness on the citizens, on the need of a separated waste collection. This is short what the President of the Province of Avellino (Italy) and member of the Committee of the Regions, Domenico Gambacorta, said during a conference on the circular economy, on 29 January, in front of the Environment Commissioner, Karmenu Vella.
CEMR, who was present at the conference and who has been very active on this dossier, welcomes that the new circular economy package takes into consideration that the separate collection of bio-waste shall be ensured where technically, environmentally and economically is practicable and appropriate. -
EU Urban Agenda - 27.01.2016
What will be the next steps? CEMR participated in a debate at the European Parliament
CEMR attended a public hearing at the European Parliament on the implementation of the EU Urban Agenda. The event, that took place on 25 January, served , served to MEPs and local elected representatives to exchange on the efforts that are made to accelerate its implementation while reinforcing the role of towns and regions in the EU legislative process.
CEMR, that fully supports the implementation of an EU urban agenda, believes that an increased involvement of local governments will ensure better EU law making by providing local expertise. Furthermore, it will ensure a better access to EU funds, the exchange of knowledge and a regulation that better matches towns and regions' needs.
