CEMR meets ministers responsible for cohesion policy in Malta
CEMR was officially invited to the Informal Meeting of Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy on 8 – 9 June in Valletta, Malta.
This event came just before the adoption of our position paper on the future of cohesion policy. For the future of Europe and its territories after the next EU budget review in 2020, CEMR advocates a simplified and integrated territorial approach to cohesion policy. -

PLATFORMA’s perspective on the New European Consensus on Development
A new Consensus on Development replacing a previous development framework in place since 2005 entered into force at the European Development Days (EDD) opening ceremony on 7 June in Brussels. This Consensus recognises the role of local and regional governments in achieving the SDGs and commits to support decentralization reforms and decentralised cooperation.

Former MEP and mayor Edite Estrela receives CEMR medal
The equality of women and men should be a core principle in every democratic local government. Former MEP and vice-president of the European Parliament’s committee on women’s rights and gender equality, as well as mayor of Sintra, Edite Estrela has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to equality both at local and European level.
For her hard work in favour of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, one of CEMR’s proudest achievements, Edite Estrela was awarded the CEMR medal on 18 May. Congratulations! -

On 28 April, signatories of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life were invited to a workshop in Washington D.C. to share good practices in gender equality and mainstreaming that can be reproduced in decentralisation projects in Latin America. This event was organised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
