Habitat III - 14.03.2016
A conference to discuss how towns can promote sustainable development in their territories
How can towns and regions best fight urban poverty while fostering local economic development? How can they make the best of the resources at their disposal to tackle climate change?
CEMR and PLATFORMA will be discussing these questions at a conference in the frame of the Habitat III Europe regional meeting, to be held from 16 to 18 March, in Prague.
Speakers will include: Ilma Reepalu, Councillor of Malmö (Sweden) and CEMR spokesperson on urban matters; Annemarie Penn-Te Strake, Mayor of Maastricht.
Registrations to the event are still open. -
PLATFORMA - 11.03.2016
PLATFORMA is looking for editors to write a guide on funding opportunities for decentralised cooperation
PLATFORMA is launching a call for interest for the drafting of a practical guide on existing funding opportunities which support cities and regions’ actions for sustainable development and poverty eradication. The guide will be for cities and regions of Europe and partner countries.

Roma integration - 09.03.2016
Towns and regions are invited to participate in a project to promote the integration of Roma
The call for proposals is launched by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
It aims to assist local governments in better integrating marginalised people, in particular non-nationals of Roma ethnicity, both via capacity building and transnational cooperation. Applicants can devise an approach tailored to address their needs.
Interested municipalities are invited to fill in the application form before 29 April 2016 at 5h.

EU Commission published a guide for the implementation of projects funded by ESIF
The Commission’s guide aims to help towns, regions and all public administrations as well as beneficiaries of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), to identify and avoid potential errors as well as to adopt best practices when it comes to carrying out public procurement procedures. -
Quality of life in cities - 29.02.2016
EU Commission’s survey sheds light on people's satisfaction of their city
Early 2015, EU Commission published its fifth survey on the “Perception of Quality of Life in European Cities”. The report shows how satisfied people are with various aspects of urban life like employment, migrants, public transports or pollution.
The survey results show that generally Europeans are very satisfied with regard to the cities where they live. It also reveals what areas deserve especial attention in some cities, such as health services, unemployment and education.

Circular economy - 26.02.2016
"Towns and regions should be consulted", says MEP Simona Bonafe's cabinet member
It is important to take into account the vision of local and regional governments in the transition towards a circular economy. This is in short what Marco Leonardi, assistant to MEP Simona Bonafe - rapporteur of the waste package reports - highlighted at a CEMR expert group meeting on waste management, on 25 February 2016.
The meeting constituted a platform for exchange of views with EU officials that will serve to enrich CEMR's position paper to be published in the coming weeks. -
European Social Funds - 24.02.2016
EU Commission launches consultation about the use of the funds between 2007 and 2013
The aim of the consultation is to seek feedback from the stakeholders directly involved in the use of the European Social Fund (ESF) during 2007-2013 programming period, including:
- Stakeholders involved in the management of operational programmes;
- Stakeholders involved in the delivery of ESF operations as project promoters;
- Participants in ESF support measures
The deadline to contribute is Wednesday 27 April 2016. -
Norway - 18.02.2016
President of CEMR's Norwegian association reappointed for a second term
The president of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), Gunn Marit Helgesen, was today reelected for a second four-year term. She succeeded Halvdan Skard in February 2012 as chair of the association.

Cohesion policy - 16.02.2016
EU Commission launches consultation for the 2007-2013 programming period
The consultation seeks feedback from relevant stakeholders on the use of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Cohesion Fund during 2007-2013 programming period.
Contributions are particularly sought from stakeholders (public administrations, NGOs and local and regional governments) involved in the management of operational programmes and the delivery of ERDF and Cohesion Funds.
The deadline to participate is Sunday 24 April 2016
