CEMR in mourning - 14.01.2019
Local and regional Europe in mourning after the assassination of the mayor of Gdansk
It is with great sadness that we learned of the assassination of the mayor of Gdańsk, Pawel Adamowicz. The mayor was stabbed on 13 January during a major charity event in Poland.
We extend our sympathy to his family and to the citizens of Gdańsk (Poland). We also share the sentiment of the association of Polish cities, which describes Mr Adamowicz as being "a model of solidarity in practice." -

#OurDay, a day for local government to come together
On 20 November, with #OurDay, local government came together on social media to celebrate the people who keep our communities running. This social media marathon gives everyone who works or volunteers in local public services the chance to share their stories of how they improve the quality of life of residents. This yearly initiative was launched by the Local Government Association (United Kingdom).
The French Mayors' Association (AMF) has launched a similar campaign, #MaCommuneJyTiens, to show all the work local governments do for their constituents. -

Our Czech association, the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, is organising a one-day seminar on the implementation of the GDPR for towns and municipalities on 7 December in Prague.
