#CohesionAlliance - 09.01.2020
CEMR meets with Commissioner Ferreira
As a member of the #CohesionAlliance, CEMR participated today in a meeting with Elisa Ferreira, the European commissioner for cohesion and reforms. Carola Gunnarsson, CEMR spokesperson on cohesion policy, stressed at the meeting that cohesion policy must not be subject to conditionalities that cannot be influenced by municipalities and regions.
Ferreira stated that the Just Transition Mechanism would not be financed from funds coming from cohesion. “We need extra money to address new challenges, cohesion policy should not be sacrificed to accommodate these new challenges,” she said. -
Entrepreneurial Regions - 06.01.2020
Win the 2021 European Entrepreneurial Region Label
Regions and other territories can apply for the 10th edition of the European Entrepreneurial Region Label (EER). For 2021, the EER will in particular reward territories engaging in green and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2020. You can find more information and apply through the Committee of the Regions’ website. -

Call for candidacies for the International Award UCLG - Mexico City - Culture 21
Local and regional governments and individuals can apply for the 4th edition of the International Award UCLG - Mexico City - Culture 21. The candidates who have done the most to link culture with democratic governance, citizen participation or sustainable development may win between €25,000 and €50,000.

Who will be the next EU commissioner in charge of SDGs?
Paolo Gentiloni, the incoming European Commissioner for Economy, will be responsible for overseeing the European Union’s implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). That’s the news as reported by Politico following talks between President-Elect Ursula von der Leyen and the Socialists & Democrats Group in the European Parliament. The new Commission still needs to be approved by the Parliament. -

We are looking for towns or cities to host our next conference and congress
We invite European local and/or regional governments, in cooperation with their national association or CEMR section, to submit applications to host the following two events:
- Our next conference on “Citizens’ Engagement in Local Public Life” to be held in 2022
- Our next European congress to be held in 2024.
You may apply to host either or both of these events.
